Description

These Air-Fryer Apple Fritters are a healthier twist on the classic treat, delivering the perfect balance of tender apples, warm spices, and a crisp, golden exterior. With a simple browned butter glaze, these fritters are ideal for breakfast, brunch, or dessert — and all made without deep-frying!

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Fritters

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup 2% milk
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
  • 2 medium Honeycrisp apples, peeled and chopped
  • Cooking spray

For the Browned Butter Glaze

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon 2% milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 410°F (210°C). Line the basket with parchment paper (cut to fit) and spritz with cooking spray.

  2. Prepare the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Add milk, eggs, lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir until just moistened. Gently fold in the chopped apples.

  3. Air Fry the Fritters
Drop ¼ cup portions of the batter onto the prepared parchment, spacing them 2 inches apart. Spritz the tops with cooking spray. Air-fry at 410°F for 5-6 minutes until golden. Flip the fritters and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

  4. Make the Glaze
In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter until it starts to brown and foam (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Whisk in confectioners’ sugar, milk, and the remaining ½ teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.

  5. Glaze and Serve
Drizzle the browned butter glaze over warm fritters before serving. Enjoy them fresh for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Apple Varieties: Honeycrisp apples give a sweet, crisp bite, but Granny Smith apples can be used for a tangier flavor.
  • Serving Tip: These fritters pair perfectly with a cup of coffee or warm cider.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 320°F for 2-3 minutes.
