Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
For the Coating:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- 1. Make the Dough
- In a pan over high heat, bring water, butter, salt, and sugar to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and gradually add the flour, stirring continuously until the dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove the dough from the heat and transfer to a mixing bowl. Let it cool for 4-5 minutes.
- 2. Add Egg & Vanilla
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the cooled dough.
- Mix with an electric hand mixer until smooth and well combined.
- 3. Prepare the Air Fryer
- Transfer the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and spray the basket with nonstick spray (coconut oil spray works best).
- 4. Pipe & Air Fry
- Pipe bite-sized churros into the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. You can also drop spoonfuls of dough if preferred.
- Lightly brush with melted butter.
- Air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 5. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar
- In a shallow bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together.
- Once the churros are done, immediately toss them in the cinnamon sugar to coat evenly.
- If the coating doesn’t stick well, brush the churros with a little melted butter or spray with water, then roll in the sugar mixture.
- 6. Serve & Enjoy
- Serve warm and enjoy these crispy air fryer churro bites as they are or with chocolate sauce, caramel, or dulce de leche!
Notes
- Ensure the dough cools slightly before adding the egg to prevent scrambling.
- Use a star piping tip for the classic churro shape and ridges.
- If you don’t have a piping bag, simply drop spoonfuls of dough into the air fryer for a “churro nugget” look.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 2-3 minutes for best results.
