Description

These Cheesy Onion Crisps are the perfect crispy, cheesy snack! Sweet onions are thinly sliced, layered on top of melted cheddar cheese, and baked to golden perfection with a sprinkle of savory ranch seasoning. Serve them with ranch or marinara sauce for an irresistible appetizer, side dish, or low-carb snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large sweet onions
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 teaspoons ranch seasoning (or seasoning of choice)

  • Ranch or marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. 1. Prep the Baking Sheets
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and lightly grease them.
  4. 2. Slice the Onions
  5. Slice the onions into thin rounds (about ¼-inch thick). You’ll need about 16 slices total.
  6. 3. Assemble the Crisps
  7. Arrange 8 small piles of shredded cheddar cheese on each baking sheet, leaving space between them.
  8. Place one onion round on top of each cheese pile.
  9. Sprinkle each with ranch seasoning (or your preferred seasoning blend).
  10. 4. Bake to Perfection
  11. Bake for 11-13 minutes, keeping a close eye towards the end to prevent burning. The crisps should be golden brown and crispy.
  12. 5. Cool and Serve
  13. Allow the crisps to cool for 5-7 minutes before removing them from the baking sheets.
  14. Serve warm with ranch dressing or marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Use a sharp knife or mandoline to slice onions evenly for the best texture.
  • Watch closely while baking—these crisps can go from golden to burnt quickly.
  • Let crisps cool for 5 minutes before removing them to help them firm up.
  • Customize the seasoning with Cajun, taco seasoning, Italian herbs, or smoked paprika.
  • Storage Tip: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

  • Reheating: Crisp them back up by baking at 400°F (200°C) for 2-3 minutes.
